Windows Explorer in Vista Crashes

I've just been having this annoying problem. Commonly, windows explorer will crash, either when I'm moving files (sizes are usually in GB) or deleting files. I can't even delete files in my TEMP left over from converting my movies. Also, the worse that would happen is that sometimes if i were to explore the files on a DVD (doesnt matter whats on the disk), i get the blue screen and my computer restarts.

I own a Dell E520, Pentium 4w/HT 3.00Ghz, 1GB RAM, X1300 Video card, 160GB HDD (<30Gb left)
I'm running Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit edition that i got from dell.

Anybody think they can help me?

Two things:
1. Your sytem is a little short in RAM for Vista. You'll notice a major difference if you upgrade to 2GB of RAM. If your MB does not support 2GB, you can use the Readyboost function by sticking a (modern) USB stick into your computer and activating Readyboost.

2. Install Vista SP1 RC. Many people who have installed it have noticed a noticeable perfomance difference and better reliability.

thats good to hear, i was thinking of an upgrade to 3gb by adding 2gb ddr2 (since 3gb is more than i need).
Where do i get Vista SP1 RC? and is it any different than the one dell sent me?

Oh, i use the gadgets on the sidebar too, i only have 4 running (notepad, clock, cpu/ram meter, and a calendar). Taskmanager and the meter indicate that at idle im using 50-53% of my total ram, but it never went any higher than 85%...is that a problem?
