What do you want to open??

Right click on Windows Explorer under accessories, and choose properties

C:\WINDOWS\explorer.exe /e, C:\ (C:\, or the path to the directory you want to open)

Example, if you want Windows explorer to open your pictures, the paths would be:

Shortcut tab

Target: C:\WINDOWS\explorer.exe /e, "C:\documents and settings\username\my documents\my pictures"

Start in: C:\Windows

that is where windows explorer opens to, by default.. (as you can see).. in the left column, you can navigate to other folders.. supposedly, there is a way to change the folder that windows explorer opens to, but i don't really see a need to change it.. i hardly ever use windows explorer, myself.. i just go to my documents if i want that, or "my computer" etc if i want that..

dcjra,

To open Windows Explorer to a display of the C:\ partition (which used to be the default behavior before Windows ME) enter the following into the Target: box

%SystemRoot%\explorer.exe /n,/e,c:\

The Start In: box should already have %HOMEDRIVE%%HOMEPATH% but msil217's value of C:\Windows will also work.

Denny

Thanks for that tip. It will save countless clicks to get to the C:\ drive which is where most of us want to go to anyway.

Note that you can create an icon to open Win Explorer on ANY subfolder to "C:\". Use the same address shown in the previous post, then add the rest of the path to the subfolder following the "C:\". Example, you might have one that opens Program Files directly: ... "C:\Program Files". I have some BIG folders that I like to open directly, and I made a bunch of those shortcuts.
