Windows is not Genuine

Hi All!

I purchased a refurb Latitude 3330 laptop running Windows 7 in mid September.  We have been having problems, as it seemed it had a virus from the time of set-up.  I have been installing and trying various antivirus and adware programs to try and fix it.  Tonight, after quarantining some viruses a message popped up that said something about Windows Activation and an unauthorized change was made to windows.  I went to the product verifier, as windows was installed on my computer by Dell so I assumed it was real, but after running the verifier it concluded that my windows was not genuine.

What do I do about this?  Any help would be greatly appreciated

To Science_Girl and all,

We've had our Dell Inspiron N5110 since Nov 2011. We purchased directly from Dell. Last night we received the message our Windows 7 was not genuine. We also need assistance with correcting this problem.  I attempted to run integrity checks (based on another Dell Tech thread) but met with resistance - command statement that our access was denied.  Please help!

If it was genuinely installed you should be able to re enter the key from the coa sticker.

If it does not accept the key you will have to call it in and get a new 25 digit key from microsoft. If the automated system does not work you may have to purchase a get genuine kit.

Likely the virus has effected your OS and hence Windows activation. I advise clean installation after a secure wipe with DBAN. Follow the instructions here:
