Windows Key corrupt

I all of a sudden started getting messages about my DRM being corrupt when trying to use Rhapsody music subscription software. That software forced an upgrade to their newest version. That requires upgrading Window Media to version 11 (I am on version 10). When I try to upgrade compnents on Microsoft page, the upgrade button is disabled. I was told it is because my Windows valid license key is corrupt (of illegal copy).

I have to upgrade to Windows Media 11, but can not because of this. Automatic updates continually try and load Genuine Windows Advantage update but it always fails to install. Rhapsody support finally said I had to go back to Dell for advice on gow to get my Windows activation key again. (Microsoft support policy is to pass it back to Dell since OS installed on machine when bought).

I have Windows Home Media 2005 ver 5. Windows XP SP2 on Dell Demension 8400.
Where do I start? Can it be accomplished here or do I need a phone call to Dell? Thanks.

Thanks,
I had already been to the diagnostic screen and all tests pass. So my IE is not preventing the updates from loading anyway.

I will explore the other links provided and will follow up with what I've experienced with the other link.

Ran the WGA dianostics and all results passed. Then I clicked on the Validate Windws button on that screen and got a validation is complete message. I will retry loading my updates and then update to Windows Media Player 11. Stay tuned.

Went back and my computer automatically down loaded Windows Media Player 10 security update, but it failed. I went and downloaded Windows Media 10 from Microsoft and tried to install that again, but was told it could not install, try again.

Went back to Rhapsody software and it again told me I do not have DRM rights. It took me to a screen from Microsoft to upgrade DRM components, but the Upgrade button is grayed out. Seems I am back at square one.

Now my computer tries to download Windows Media Player 10 security update over and over.

I was going to try and uninstall WMP10, but all directions say to go to Control Panel, Add/Remove programs. The media player is not listed so I can not remove it. Do not know how to remove it or reload it.

When you go to add remove programs, look on the left side for add remove windows components.

I remember this screen as I had already removed and reinstalled WMP10 and I still got my DRM error message in Rhapsody and Windows Automatic Update still tries to download security update for WMP10 but fails.

Evidently I have somethings messed up and performed some things out of order so maybe I have made WMP uninstallable?

I'm thinking that WMP is so wrapped up in DRM that I just need to get rid of WMP10 and do a reload, of which I have been trying to do, but no steps have succeeded.

Here is the message I get from Rhapsody. Maybe it will be a clue as to the problem. Nothing I have done affected anything about it.

Windows Media DRM Corrupt

Phapsody has detected a problem with some of windows media DRM components on your computer. You will not be able to transfer or play any Rhapsody tracks until the problem is solved. Click OK to attempt to fix this problem.

Click Yes will close Rhapsody and any other application that uses windows media DRM. Your current windows media licences will be removed. You will be redirected to a web page to help you restore windows media DRM compnents.

This web page:
Windows Media Technologies
Security component upgrade.
Upgrade security components of your digital media player so you can play protected files on your computer.

upgrade button is grayed out.

I also keep getting the Security update for WMP 10 for Win Xp (KB936782)
It always fails to load.
