Thank you for the response. I would suggest you to uninstall Windows Live Essentials from the computer and update to the latest version. You can download it from the link http://bit.ly/GQ9tPI . Please disconnect any external peripherals connected to the computer (flash drives, printers, external hard drives) and there should not be any CD/DVD in the drive while performing the steps.
Choose the location as desktop, save the file on the desktop
Right click on the file and choose ‘Run as Administrator’
Choose ‘Allow’ if prompted
Follow the on screen instruction to run the program
Restart the computer
If the above Fixit does not resolve the issue, I would suggest you to uninstall and re-install Windows Live Essentials. First uninstall 'Windows Live Essentials' from 'Control Panel' -> Programs -> Programs and Features. You may download it from the link http://bit.ly/GQ9tPI
Note: if you have your email configured in Windows Live Mail, please take a backup of the emails as uninstalling Windows Live Essentials may result in data loss. Please refer to the link http://bit.ly/O79Qwc
Thanks for the suggestions, Appu S. Unfortunately Fixit didn't work. So I went in to uninstall Windows Live Essentials and was given a choice of which parts to uninstall: Messanger, Photo Gallery & Movie Maker, WindowsLive Mesh, Mail, and Writer. If I choose Photo Gallery & Movie Maker only will I be given the choice of just reinstalling that portion only? The problem I am having is nothing like those mentioned when using Fixit. My error message was not even mentioned but a whole lot of much worse problems were. That was when I was sent to Microsoft for help by their Fixit program. Right now I am wondering if I should just forget about that error message because, as I said earlier, I can just X it away. It happens when I attempt to view a CD, one of my two external hard drives, and some of my flash drives. I think I can live with that if you agree it is just a quirkey problem, nothing to worry about.
On further research on this issue, I was able to find that the issue has been fixed with the latest version of Windows Live Essentials. I would suggest you to uninstall and re-install Windows Live Essentials from you computer and update to the latest version. You can download it from the link http://bit.ly/GQ9tPI
I guess I hit the yes button, expecting my message I had written would go to you also. Didn't so I will write it again.
When I went to uninstall Windows Live Essentials I was given an option to repair it. I figured it wouldn't hurt to try so did. I THINK it worked but not as I expected. No error messages now but a window opens expecting me to import photos, etc. I can either do that or cancel it and go about my business. At any rate, I am not going to worry about it anymore unless it gets really aggrevating; should that happen I will do the uninstall/reinstall bit.

I get the message when I put a data CD in the tray, plug in ONLY one of my two external USB hard drives or plug in a flash drive.
Please refer to my second message where I asked which item to check to uninstall Windows Live Essentials.
Thanks,
Bessie
