windows log on

Question

I used to be able to start my pc without logging on as a user before I formatted my Dimension 8200, now when I start my pc I have to log on, I would like to go back to being able to start up directly if someone knows. Thanks, atty

It seems one of the recent Microsoft fixes forces you to logon even if you are the only user. Try this.

try this Click Start, Run and type CONTROL USERPASSWORDS2, and click Ok. Select the user account from the list (to which account you want to automatically logon). Uncheck Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer option, and click Ok. Type the user account password and complete the process.   Good Luck!

Thanks, I tried this and it works but I don't get my Welcome screen like I use to but it's better than havinig to click on my name each time. I don't like messing with the registry. I appreciate both of your answers. atty
