Windows Login Password Scramble

I have set up a sceensaver password, when I enter my password characters it comes up with multiple characters and scrambles the word preventing me from loggin in. When I finally logged in I checked this in Word and it had the same scramble. Has someone changed the keyboard settings? It worked fine yesterday.
