Windows Mail - Problem with Contacts

On my own machine (9200), Windows Mail works perfectly.

On my moms (identical) machine, it used to work fine, but now there are problems with Contacts as follows:
  • cannot access contacts from the To or Cc buttons - it says 'unable to choose recipients'
  • cannot edit any contacts  -  a small window briefly flashes and goes away...can't even read what it says.
  • cannot import or export contacts...I get an "OK" box with a red "X" in it...no message text
  • can however:
    • start typing an email address in the To or Cc which will autocomplete
    • right click on a email address and have it Add to Contacts
    • see all contacts on the Contact directory via Windows Explorer
    • cliik on a listed contact, see the email address in the righ windows pane, click on the address and compose and email from there.
    • send and recieve mail

The Default programs correctly points to Windows Mail.

I had seen in some google searches that the KB933928 Windows update could be the problem...but I have it installed on my machine so I dont think thats the issue - also likely not a good idea to uninstall a Microsoft update..

Any suggesttion on how to fix this??

I would uninstall the KB933928 patch, it has no security implications. see if mail returns to normal.

What I ended up doing is "upgrading" from Windows Mail (WM) to Windows Live Mail (WLM) and all the issues went away. WLM is a free download and a more feaure rich client. She is now a happy camper.
