I just got my new XP Media Center edition. I can not play videos that I used to be able to. I downloaded Divx, codecs, flash, and shockwave. I can now play most BUT NOT ALL WEBSITES. If I try to play video it says "download plugin" I click this and it routes me to windows media player 10 download. I download it and try to install it, now this puter says newer ver of player already on puter and terminates install. Uninstall MP 10 you say?? Go to control panel add/remove programs...it is NOT listed. Dell support tossed me aside and said its a software problem..go to "Dell on Call" and PAY for answer. If anybody ever figures this out, please let us know. thank you. Bob

Actually WMP10 is listed in Add/Remove- but not by that name. The "newer version" that your computer is detecting is one of the WMP10 hotfixes. So before you can reinstall a fresh version, you will have to uninstall any and all WMP hotfixes listed in Add/Remove. Be sure that the "Show Updates" box at the top is checked first.
Thank you Joe, but there are many wmp10 updates. the one KB910393 4-25-06 says "this update cannot be removed" when you click on it!If I remove all others, do you think I could still re-install?
I would still try uninstalling all the other WMP updates you can, and try reloading it. The last time I tried this it worked. but that was before they released KB910393. which is listed at the MS site as an MCE update, related to Digital Rights Management.

Then download/install a fresh copy of WMP10 from: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/download/AllDownloads.aspx?displang=en&qstechnology=
