Windows Media Player 11

I have:

Microsoft Windows XP
Home Edition
Version 2002
Service Pack 2

Dell Vostro VOSTRO_400
Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU
Q6600 @ 2.4 GHz
2.39 GHz, 2.00GB RAM
Physical Address Extension

It came from Dell with Windows Media Player 9 ver 9.00.00.3354.  I'd like to go to Media Player 11 but every time I try to download and update it fails.  I go to Control Panel and remove it and re-boot - it reverts to MP9.

The install strats real slow usually sticks at 12% for hours.  Eventually gets to 75% then fails indicating it cannot complete the install.  I close all programs except my Norton protection center and internet security.

I even tried installing Media Player 10 - same result - cannot complete the install.  I checked event logs - nothing.

Any Suggestions??

Try installing Service Pack 3 first, then install Media Player 11

Windows Media Player 11 works with sp2, do you get the same problem trying to install windows media player 10. Also does it prompt you for validation of windows?
