Windows Media Player autorun

I may and probably will sound like a total asking this question, but Microsoft Help and Support Center hates me, so I'll try here.  Is there any way to turn off the autoplay function in the newest version of WMP?  Every time I try to download music, it automatically plays in the Player, closing the dialog box that was supposed to be downloading the music and wasting my time.
