Right-click on the desktop icon for Media Player and choose Properties. The Target box should say
"C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player\wmplayer.exe". If it does not, the shortcut is pointing to the wrong location.
Secondly, see if you can open WMP directly. Open Windows Explorer and go to C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player and double-click wmplayer.exe.
