Windows Media Player Randomly Stops Playing
I've put up with this problem since I received my XPS last fall but I finally got tired of dealing with it. For some reason Windows Media Player on Windows 7 (64-bit) has the nasty habit of randomly stopping while it's playing something. Something could be a DVD, Blu-ray disc, MP3 song, or pretty much anything else it will play. Sometimes it behaves fine, other times it just stops. I have yet to find any rhyme or reason for this. I installed VLC media player to see if there was a hardware issue however VLC has not once just stopped during playback. In fact, it's become my preferred media player, but I would like to find out what's causing this.

i think you have made the right choice, VLC is a great player. WM player is ok but will only playback microsoft approved formats. As for the stuttering that sounds like a software issue. I use VLC and BSplayer for video and winamp for music. All are free in basic versions and superior to MS offerings. Also a good codec pack doesn't hurt. shark007 pack has codecs for 32bit and 64 and covers all formats.
