Windows Not Starting Successfully after SP2 Install
After LOTS of research on Dell and Microsoft websites, and after taking a couple of Valium to calm my nerves, I followed ALL the steps to successfully install Windows XP Service Pack 2, except that I did not update BIOS, which I understood was not necessary. Everything seems to be fine, except that OCCASIONALLY (not ALWAYS) I get a strange-looking black startup screen that says something like "We're sorry for the inconvenience, but Windows did not start successfully" And stuff about a hardware or software change could be the cause. If I wait a few seconds or else hit enter, the normal Windows XP Welcome screen appears. Why is it happening? It never happened before on my new (since July) Dell Dimension 4600 until after I installed SP2. Only other problem is startup seems slower than usual.
