Windows Opening Up Minimized

This morning I had an optional update from Microsoft for my ATI Radeon HD 2400 Pro display adapter. While it was installing it brought up the desktop with the fonts enlarged quite a bit  twice. When I went to the MSN home page later there was a lot of flicker and unsteadiness on the screen, so I looked for the update to delete it, but couldn't seem to find it on the list, and ended up doing a System Restore. (At the end of which I got an error message that the System Restore couldn't finish correctly, when I pressed the IE icon.) However pressing a few more icons seemed to settle the computer down and it has worked fine except for some pages come up in the minimized state, or about a third the size of the normal page.

I have tried to drag the page borders to the proper dimensions and then close, or just push the button to maximize the page and then close. For a few pages this does not work all the time. For instance, if I come back from browsing and try to bring up the MSN home page, it will come up half size. If I enlarge the page and then close it and try to open it again without going anywhere else, it will open up normal size. Most pages open up normally, so not sure just what the update did to cause the few that don't. Is there is some some setting that will cause all pages to open to normal size.

Using Vista SP2 and IE7. I know there are later versions of IE available but I am comfortable with this one.  Thanks for any advice.

Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum,

Try the steps below to see if they will resolve your issue.

go to tools, internet options,  under "Tabs" click settings,

select "always open pop-ups in a new tab

You can also try the information below.

  • Close all instances of Internet Explorer except for one.
  • Right-click on a link in the page and select: "Open in New Window"
  • Close the first browser window using the [ X ] (upper right corner)
  • Resize the window manually by dragging the sides to the desired size.
Note: Do NOT click the Maximize button, you must do it manually.

Thanks Jesse. Going to Internet Options and  making the change seems to have done the trick. Will try the other option if I continue to have trouble.
