Windows root \system32\hal.dll. file missing or corrupt
Computer - Dell Dimension 4600 - Operating system - XP Pro
When I attempted to reboot my computer this evening, it would not boot and this message was on the screen....
Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: (Windows root) \system32\hal.ddl. Please re-install a copy of the above file.
I have searched my discs and cannot find this file. I attempted to use my xp disc to reinstall, but no luck. Anyone have any ideas on this? Thanks - Paul

I have a 2400 dell computer and when i sign on I get a message saying that
Windows could not start because the following file is mising or sorrupt:
\system32\hal.dll.
Please re-install a copy of the above file.
And when I did F8 and went to Safe Mode with Command Prompt the only thing that was highlighted was Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition and I could not scroll to anythin and I didn't even see Administrator.
