Windows Security

I have Spybot and Norton Anti-Virus. When I run Spybot I get a Windows Security Center AntiVirus Disable. When I go to Norton it tells me it is enabled. I also get a Windows Security Center Direwall Disable Notify. Can anyone tell me what is wrong?

You may be seeing that message because you have Windows own built-in firewall disabled and instead you're using a firewall from Norton. You shouldn't run both at the same time.

Hello,

I have the same problem, spybot is detecting the windows security center.antivirus disable notify as a spyware, so I tried to run spybot in safe mode and it seams to fixed it, but as soon as I sing on, I started to get this message from norton, "virus protection is turned off" I tried to turn it on but it doesn't let me do it.

Help!!!!

Spybot is just trying to be helpful by warning that Windows firewall is turned off, but you should be able to tell it to ignore that registry setting.

As for the new issue, you may want to run a System Restore using a date before you let Spybot "fix" things.

start>help&support
click "undo changes..."
Follow the prompts and pick a date before spybot made those changes. Any software or updates installed after that Restore date will have to be reinstalled.

Hello again Ron,

I just tried what you told me, but it wont restore any earlier point, its like it is blocking the process, because it looks like its restoring the point and when the computer restarts the first message I got its that Norton is disable, I tried to create a new profile but i got exactly the same, I don’t know what else to do, any other idea?

Thank You.

Sounds like your System Restore database may be corrupted. Open System control panel and click System Restore tab, and check box "Turn off...". Click Ok back to desktop. Reboot. That deletes the corrupted database. Then open System Restore tab in System control panel again and uncheck that box. Now manually set a Restore point so you know it's working.

As for the Norton issue, you may have to contact Norton. Or you may have to uninstall and reinstall Norton again.

In Spybot, after the scan has completed, click on one of those antivirus disable notify or firewall disable notify items, slide open the information panel by clicking on the grey button on the right of the scan page, and you''ll see an explanation.
