Windows Server 2008 and PERC H200A

I have been trying and trying and trying but I just cannot get Windows Server 2008 to see my disk in my RAID1 setup.  I am running a Dell PowerEdge R415 and I have attempted to install Windows Server 2008 numerous times to no avail.  I have downloaded all the latest drivers from Dell and yet when it scans my USB stick it still claims there are no compatiple drivers available.

What am I doing wrong here?  The raid controller is  a PERC H200A.

Kindest Regards

First, are you trying to install 2008 (non-R2) 32-bit or 64-bit?  Make sure if you are trying to install 32-bit that you have a 32-bit driver ... for some reason, only the 2008 64-bit driver is available on the download page for the R415.  The 64-bit driver will NOT work to install 2008 32-bit.

Second, make sure this is the driver you are using:

Third, make sure you have configured RAID in CTRL-R before attempting to install.

Fourth, if all else fails, use the installation utility (this DVD would have come with your server unless you specifically chose not to receive it when ordered - make sure to follow the Installation Instructions for this on the Download page of each ISO Image):

Hi, thanks for your reply.

I can confirm that I am installing Server 2008 non R2 and it is the 32bit version.  I downloaded the driver you suggested in point 2 but it did not help.

The raid was preconfigured by Dell upon purchase of the hardware but just needs the operating system installed. Not sure why it isnt working, I shall try the Dell disc today but failing that I dont know what I will have to do.

Like I said, you cannot use a 64-bit driver to install a 32-bit operating system.  The link I provided in point Two is for the 64-bit version, as the 415 does NOT list a 32-bit set of drivers for 2008.  Getting the driver from another server's download page, you would need to use this 2008x86 driver for the H200:

The Dell installation DVD should work too.
