Windows shutting down-Physical Memory Dump

I have Dimension XPS Gen 3 - 1 Gig Memory - 2 x 160G hard drives with RAID 1
Software - AOL, Norton Antivirus, AutoCAD2004LT, and the usual Microsoft programmes.
I use AutoCad and AOL most of the day - and Internet Explorer -these are the programmes I have most "shut downs" with. "send a report" is a regular occurance.
The biggest concern is: At intermittentant times - no reason - even overnite I find this message:
Problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage, etc.
Check for adequate disk space - disable bios memory options such as caching or shadowing etc.
Beginning Dump of Physical Memory.
Any one had this problem? Presume it has something  to do with RAID 1?
Computer is as supplied and setup by DELL.
Do I need more memory due to the dual RAID? or is 1 Gig plenty.

No problem wiht the amount of memory, just the qulaity.  That's generally a sign of bad or failing memory.

Your problem is Norton. Uninstall it. Don't just disable it. If you look in your Dell support that's on your computer, and look where it discusses the dreaded blue screen at shutdown, it suggests that. I had basically the same thing. I uninstalled the Norton, and fixed the problem. Don't bother calling tech support, because they will probably tell you to re-install your system. That is not necessary. I replaced Norton with ZoneAlarm Security Suite and it's great. Norton has become a source of conflicts. Garbage.

I have the same problem as stated above. But I don't have Norton on my system, I have AVG. I own the I5100 with 2.4ghz, 256mb memory, and 30g hard drive. I don't know what to do, Dell tells me to reinstall as you said, but i think there might be another way. Any other suggestions for this problem?

I did a disk clean up and frag which seems to have stabilized my problem the last two days - however, I am not sure this has helped, but will have to see.  My Norton is "disabled" at this time - will remove it after next fault, I have also had temporary results with running AOL Spyware on a manual basis and not automatic.  I also ran a Sytem Information windows error report to try to get to grips with what area is faulting - it seems to be mainly "iexplore.exe" and gives various fault addresses - I will keep monitoring this list to see if I can reproduce the problem. I also have been looking at info from Dell relating to Blue Screen and "Stop" error messages - writing down the 0x0000etc numbers to also look these up.
There is so much info, and not much conclusion yet!
All suggestions welcome!
