If your copy of Windows is not legit then you will not be able to get updates.

But the fact that both your updates aren't working and your virus protection is disabled makes me question if you have a Malware problem in addition.

I would go over to this site, www.spywarehammer.com ,  register there and have then check your system out for Malware.  This is an excellent site, I am associated with it also.

this might work might not- thats how i turn off updates for network users.

"software from null" that points to an update server. Type in the white bar "gpedit.msc" hit enter and go to left side bottom-- user config>all settings>**** updates-- and enable it. You may need to do the same for machine settings

Go down to the Windows 7 section.

hey Z..

I bought the Dell laptop with pre installed OS (Windows 7 Home Premium). If the OEM provided by DELL is counterfeit then what can I do.

Do you have a Dell Windows 7 Home Premium COA affixed to your system? If so you are licensed to run Windows 7

See here for more details:

If on the off-chance your Windows 7 System Locked Preinstallation Activation (from Dell factory settings) has gone wrong. You can reset the OEM activation by using the Activation Backup and Recovery Program:

You may also clean install using a Digital River .iso:
