Hi George,

If you receive Windows Update error 80070002 while checking for updates, you need to remove the temporary update files that Windows uses to identify updates for your computer. Please use the link below to troubleshoot the problem with the Windows update.

Repair or reinstall Windows Update

Sometimes it does not help.  Microsoft troubleshooter could work OK but process would be possibly slow.  That's why I recommend run cmd (run as administrator)

At first run

sfc /scannow

Then (does no matter it fix or not fix errors) run 3 following commands

Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth
Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth
Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

Only one time the last one did not run properly.  Restart computer and run MS Troubleshooter.  Run

Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

again

run

sfc /scannow

again

After this (to be confident that everything OK) run MS troubleshooter again

Direct download for MS troubleshooter
