Windows Update seems to be stuck
I need help with my Windows Update. This problem started a few days ago. Windows update wil appear in the bottom right sytem tray and when I run my cursor over it is says Update 14% complete but it never gets past 14%.
I have tried restarting the computer and then going into Windows Update to manually have it search for updates. The screen pops up but it is blank and will sit there forever with the system processing circle. To get it to stop I have to go into the the task manager to end the program. After I tell it to End the program a box pops up and says that Windows Explorer is not responding.
I've restarted the computer countless times and run virus and spyware scans in normal mode and in safe mode, but still nothing has helped.
I have Zone Alarm Internet Security Suite Version 8.0.020 (new version installed several weeks ago-no seeming problems so far) and Webroot Spysweeper running on the computer and also do an Ad-Aware scan weekly.
Any suggestions?

Sorry. You will want to install a VIsta version of ZASS. That's ZASS version 7.1.254.00 from http://download.zonealarm.com/bin/free/information/zass/releaseHistory_vista.html

Problem is ZoneAlarm 8.0 (a buggy update). Try this: Disable ZoneAlarm by unchecking "load ZA at startup" (under ZA overview tab). Follow the steps in this link:
http://forum.zonelabs.org/zonelabs/board/message?board.id=AllowAccess&message.id=184&query.id=14945#M184
Windows Update should proceed automatc when you reboot.
Then, after rebooting and Windows is up to date, revert back to ZoneAlarm 7.0.483 -- per company recommendation. You want to uninstall ZA 8 and then reinstalling ZA 7 (previous link explains how to do this). http://forum.zonelabs.org/zonelabs/board/message?board.id=AllowAccess&message.id=184&query.id=14945#M184
Should work. I've had same prob and fixed this way
