Windows Update Software
Does anyone have a straight forward and to the point instructions on how to get out of the "Windows Update Software" loop when trying to update the software on MS site? I've researched many options, (extracting cab files which I receive many install failed errors or not enough disk space??), deleting iutcl.dll and iuengine.dll files from everywhere but windows/system32.
Running MS WIN XP Pro, Version 2002, SP1
IE Verion 6.0.2800.1106.xpsp2
Another question is when I go to the specific updates my version of IE SP2 is never listed. Is this version listed incorrectly on my computer?
Thanks for any help!

Renaming catroot2 is new to me. I'll research it. As far as free disk space, I have a ton 100 GB according to the properties.
Thanks for the suggestions....

==========
This can occur if the hotfix installer was referencing:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\CatRoot2\edb.log and the file was corrupt. Either renaming C:
\WINDOWS\system32\CatRoot2\edb.log or renaming the entire
C:\WINDOWS\system32\CatRoot2 folder will allow the hotfix install to complete
normally.
