Windows Updating optional security updates

Confused here.  On Windows Update, it tells me that my computer is up to date.  But "Exploring Windows volumne 77" (that I get in my email) stated that there were security updates issued on April 10, 2007 but those updates were not listed on my record as being downloaded to my system.  Why is this?  And would anyone know that if my Update states my system is up to date how I would be able to show all the options of downloading security updates that would not be listed?  Or would I simply have to wait until there are updates available so it would show a list of the security updates?  Thank you.

Thank you, kpo127.  I downloaded the update.  I don't understand why that update wasn't listed on my Windows Update page.  Thanks again,

This is a worrying problem, as I also have my Vista system telling me there are no updates to install. This is also referenced elsewhere in this forum but for some reason does not seem to have obtained the importance I think it warrants.

It is most obviously seen when Defender reports an error in updating.

Someone else in the Forum reported that going to Microsoft Updates, and unticking all the options, so the system is not active, and then manually checking for updates often finds missing updates, including Defender definitions. It was reported that resetting all the options back to where they should is preferred, but I have seen no benefit in this, as the system simply refuses to see any new updates.

This is worying, as how many others are out there thinking they are completely up to date? When I first did this, I had 9 missing updates.

I do not know what is causing the blockage, so if anyone else knows how to resolve this, please post a reply.

I've noticed that too. This is what I do. I go get the updates myself to be safe. I am set to get automatically but don't always get them. I find out when they're going to be released so I know when they're supposed to come. With the security patches they usually have a "patch Tuesday", which is usually once a month, always on Tuesday. There are exceptions of course, like last week's "cursor" patch for XP that was released because Microsoft deemed it very critical that they didn't wait a week and release it with the monthly patches.

As for Defender, I believe they are catagorized seperatly from the monthly patches and only checks for those. There are usually 2 a week, something like Tues and Friday or Wed and Friday, something like that.
