Windows Vista Premium Battery Meter

I'm running Windows Vista Premium on a Dimension E520 desktop that utilizes a UPS battery backup system. When I first got this computer I had a Vista battery meter icon in the notification area of the Windows task bar that showed the condition of the UPS battery.

However, I seem to have accidentally deleted the battery meter program from Vista's startup menu, and I can't figure out how to re-activate it so it displays again. The Dell Tech. Support guy I contacted today can't figure it out either.

Can anyone perhaps tell me how I can re-activate the Vista battery meter icon so it shows in the notification area of the Windows task bar again?

Thanks.

How familiar are you with windows explorer?

What model is the UPS?

Do you recall the name of the software that came with it?  (APC used to be "PowerChute" for example.)

To show the battery icon:
Right-click the taskbar and then click Properties.
Click the Notification Area tab.
Under System icons, select the Power check box.

Make sure all connections including the USB cable are secure and UPS is working.

Mary, please forgive my potentially ignorant question here.  The power meter that is referred to by the procedure that you indicate here would be for a local battery, would it not?

The taskbar notifications area are for local resources, was my understanding.  Does the UPS system software pipe the power data from the UPS into the local system power dialogs?
