Windows Vista usefullness & productivity

Vista is new and I expected a few bugs to merge. What I did not expect is the lack of real life benefits. The new Dell has great potential but interfacing it with Vista greatly limits the user in using it's potential. In comparison, Windows 98 and XP allows the user unlimited options on how the computer can be used. Vista was pre-installed and find it will be difficult to change to an alternative. If their is a method, can someone give me advice on the process.

What can't you do in Vista that you could do in 98 or XP? I've not found anything yet and I've been using Vista since its release.

Vista is designed to restrick what you can do. In inforces new forms of Digital Rights Management and trys to impose over, how we use it. It includes an array of features you do not want, making it less reliable and "SECURE". Additionaly, it makes my computer less stable and slower. I have now started receiving technical support problems. The DRM features actually work against you. The bottom line in this area, is that you can not refuse them! DRM decides which programs and software you can and can not use. Things I have done in the past now I am told I no longer can? Iam constantly monitored on what I am doing? inferring their is lack of trust with my usage! Lastly, Vista is proprietary software severely restricking how you use it! The new Dell computer is no longer being used because of VISTA. I am using an older vintage computer that out performs Vista and then some. The DRM Conglomerates are taking away your abilities to learn at your own level and less options for advancement. Besides it being my experience it is been backed up on investigated facts. Sorry for the lengthly explaination.

Well thanks for the informative clarification (???) - but I don't have a clue what you are talking about!

In any event, it's too bad that you can't use your new computer.

Yeah I am restricted by my wife more than I am by VISTA.

I wonder where people get these ideas.

I hear all the complaints so I have tested them.....

One guy posted that VISTA caused wireless surges and caused lag during games. He said that it affected all VISTA users using wireless connection because every 30-60 seconds VISTA would look for a better internet connection thus freezing your connection...and it would lag.  He said that if you ran a test it would show every 30-60 seconds a ping of 700 to 2500.

So I ran a test and let it run for 4 minutes...pinging my default gateway IP address, waiting for the surge.  Never got a ping higher than 5ms....He did state after I posted this, that maybe Dell uses a different configuration for wireless and Dell owners weren't affected, so that might be why I didn't have this problem.

Someone else posted games don't work...yeah, I had trouble getting my games to work.  Here's what I did.
1.  Open cd/dvd case
2.  Put CD/DVD in drive
3.  Wait for Setup.exe to come up
4.  Click install
5.  Wait while it loaded first  disk
6.  replace disk until all 4 or 5 were installed
7.  Double click Icon
8.  Wait for game to open....

Yeah, really difficult....

My internet is slower is what they tell me about VISTA....so I tested my XP computer and my VISTA.  I opened an internet page (the one I designed for our local PD).  I timed from the moment I clicked the link until the web browser showed DONE on the bottom.  Used IE7 for both tests  It took 7 seconds on my XP machine which was wired at the time, ...4 seconds on my VISTA machine which was wireless...so I guess 7 is less than 4 by someone's standards.

So i heard that certain games WILL NOT work with VISTA...the game PAINKILLER WILL NOT work on multiple core, VISTA, WIDESCREEN computers....so I get Painkiller with my VISTA, Quad and Widescreen and it runs perfectly...FEAR won't work is what they say, but it does for me.

I often wonder what I am doing right that I don't have these problems that people complain about.

Finally after reading several rants, I got a chance.  Thanks for listening.

Hmmm.....

Besides the horrible grammar and spelling, this sounds like an answer a politician gives to a question. Platitudes but no substance.

"Sorry for the lengthly explaination."

Most people understand that an "explanation" actually explains things; provides specific examples, illustrations, events, occurrences, error message, solutions, etc.

How about actually providing examples/details of what features/programs are giving you problems/concerns?

Your run-on paragraph is about like saying "Bill Gates is evil", without providing any support, details or examples to back it up.

Thanks for everyones reply. I am sorry if I struck a nerve or two. What I posted was in general terms and only wanted to see how you folks would respond. The alternative I already had in hand. Ckeck out (www.ubuntu.com/getubantu/download)you may find it food for the free. I want to pick what sofywear I want to use on my computer, and not be told I cant. Yes the gamming , movie maker and DVD maker are great on Vista but in the process I loose more then what I get. Vista is not secure if someone must monotor you and tell you what you are doing wrong. I am willing to learn by my mistakes through the technology on the internet then to have someone else do it for me. It is free and for your use. Vista has taken away that right and much more. Please accept my apologys if I have in some way intimadated you.

please give specific examples of your claims of microsoft's orwellian control over your computer. also i haven't heard of anyone not being able to use whatever software they choose to run on their computers.

you need to back up your claims with evidence.

Hi two socks2
If you want Vista to act like XP without Bing monitored by UAC and you want to be the only
{ {true administrator}} with full control of your computer read the link below it
gives you the control just Like XP .
But this does not help with the other problems you have !
Good Luck

Thanks for your response back. With an open mind think about how Vista is set up. If you have a software problem, what happens on your screen. It tells you the problem will be checked and something gives you a solution (maybe a solution) Vista gives you a warm and fuzzy feeling on their security software. Even though you install other security software, theirs are still on your harddrive. Noe see if you can find it! You cant nor all of the other hidden programs being used that you are not aware of. If you could securly clean your hard drive and install anything other then Vista, your spped would doubble and maybe faster. Now, how do I know this. Today I had a friend bench check before and after removing Vista. It became a no brainer? The bottom line is if your are satisfied with what you have, then my post is a mood subject.
