Why don't you give vista a chance, get to know it, sp 1 is coming out

next month with a lot of inprovements.See Pauls Supersite for windows

and read about it .

You will be making a big mistake going backward instead

of forward

I agree, you should give VISTA more than a couple days.  But that's your call.  I like VISTA and it works great for me, but you have a differing opinion and I respect that.

1.  You can load Xp,but you'll need an XP disk

2.  It should not render your system inoperable, provided you do it properly.  There are many threads on these forums giving instructions on what to do.

3.  The drivers for Xp will be different so you can't use the ones on the driver disk.  The disk you got with your system should only include Vista drivers.  But you can search and most of your drivers should be able to be located somewhere.  Good idea to check item you have, what drivers you will need and make sure you have them downloaded and ready to go before making the plunge.

4.  It is possible, and as stated you need an XP disk and all the XP drivers.

others may give more information, links and such.  But I would rather not as I don't want to give you a wrong link and have your system get borked (as they say).

There have been lots of people here who went back to XP. I personally have XP loaded on one drive and Vista loaded on my second HD so I can dual-boot. But I find myself in Vista 99.9% of the time. So far I have no problems, but I don't have an old printer to contend with. And everything I have will run in Vista. The only reason I keep XP is my daughters sometimes need help with a problem they have. I find it easier to help them if I have the same OS loaded up. But I look at it this way, how many people here still use Win98? WinSE? Win3.11? or DOS? If they still do, then where are you getting support and drivers for them? The computers will keep moving forward, with or without you.

There are quite a few Vista upgrades for the lexmark printers out now .

Have you gone into Lexmark and checked to see if your model was one

of them??

There are far better solutions to use other than McAfee for security. Most of which you can find for free. I use AVG myself. It takes up less resources. Avast is another popular antivirus that is also free and uses less resounces. There are also some free firewall solutions. I've tested Zone Alarm on one Vista system and it seems to work great.

I can appreciate your issue with the Lexmark printer. I have owned one in the past. It still had problems even with the current operating system back then. Nobody really wants to spend the extra money to buy another printer that's compatible. There are a lot of printers out there that are fairly inexpensive.

"I too have given Vista a try since May 2007 and I HATE it.  It is soooooooo sloooooooow I am going to load Windows 2000 on my laptop.  I bought this as a gift for my daughter and she was so disgusted
with it she went and bought her own HP laptop with XP.  Isn't 2-1/2 minutes to boot to the desktop
excessive?  Isnt 25 seconds to load Excel excessive?  Isnt 20 seconds to start the task manager
excessive? Isnt it ridiculous for the windows explorer to lock up more than half the time I start it.

I have disabled everything I can in msconfig startup and it hardly made a difference.

When it comes back from standby most of the time it logs off.

I cant even count how many times I have had to force shutdown.

What is with this ???????"
