Windows Volume Control
I am having problems with my Volume Control menu on my taskbar, the icon, does not appear, and when I go to control panel, and check the box to make it appear on my taskbar, it tells me that Windows Volume Control is not installed to install it go to Add/Remove programs.

Put the Windows XP in the CD-ROM drive. Go to Start|Run, enter cmd and click OK. At the command prompt enter the following, substituting the drive letter of your CD-ROM drive for X:
expand x:\i386\sndvol32.ex_ c:\windows\system32\sndvol32.exe and click .
There is a space after ex_. You should see a message that a file has been expanded and you should then be able to display the volume icon by checking the entry in the Sounds and Audio Devices applet in Control Panel.

I think you made a typographical error. You expand the file from x:\i386\sndvol32.ex_ into C:\Windows\system32\sndvol32.ex e. Right-click sndvol32.ex and rename it to sndvol32.exe.
