Windows XP Home Backup

Question

I have a Dell desktop computer with windows xp home version. It has no back up program in the accessories\system folder. Internet search found a suggestion to install the program from th original cd under Value add folder........I had followed the proceedure...........purchased an external hard drive and tried to back up my computer..........the backup program will not run by using the shortcut or using run. Can anyone help me with a safe proceedure to back up my computer to the external hard drive.........

A back up can be as simple as copy and paste any pictures, documents, music, or anything else you wish to save.   Did you try reinstalling ntbackup ?   http://support.microsoft.com/kb/302894

Have you tried to backup to a folder on your main(c:) drive,then send the backup folder to your external drive?
