windows xp home edition CD

Question

Hi, as soon as i reboot my inspiron 6000, i get a pop up message saying 'Files that are required by windows to run properly have been replaced by unrecognized version' insert your windows XP Home edition cd now. my warranty has expired,and i havent received the win xp cd with my laptop. what best can i do to get this resolved? thanks, venkat

bondvenky, Contact Dell at one of the links in this post and request an XP reinstallation CD.

That is a scary sounding error message.  Do you have spyware and anti-virus software up and running?

hello there PC restore would also be an option if you had bought your computer sometime in 2005. If you do not want to lose the data on the system, try creating a backup of files and also make a recovery CD from Start -> Programs-> Dell Accessories -> OS recovery CD.   kancer

The utility for making your own disk was discontinued in 2004.

thanks a lot for your inputs. i created a OS back up cd using dell os recovery utility and reinstalled the OS. everything works like a charm.
