It sounds as though you are trying to install Windows from within Recovery Console.

I would strongly recommend installing XP (which includes formatting your C:\ partition) using the standard method, given here.

I used the recovery console to reformat my primary hard drive, then used the install disk to reinstall XP Home and that is where all the problems began.  the install disk will not recognize my partitions.  I reviewed the page you sent, thanks.  and followed the procedure, however I still receive the invalid partition error.

I really dont know if this computer brought a original copy of Windows XP Home. But if you have one, I recommend try using the installion disk from the beggining, this includes to format your C:\ partition, dont use the recovery console to reformat it, you can do it from the install disk.
