Windows XP Home SP2 does not show added memory

I recently added 2GB memory to my Dimension 8400. Windows XP only show 2048 MB virtual memory. Why does this happen? What can I do to fix it?

2048MB is the same as 2GB

Use the Belarc Advisor to see how much RAM you actually have. When you said you added 2 gb, was that in addition to what you already had? http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html  Your system properties will also show how much installed memory you have--press the Windows key with the Pause break key to access. It's not called virtual memory. It's RAM.

What I meant to say that I added 2GB RAM to the 1gb I already had installed for a new total of 3GB. My question was about what Windows XP said how much Virtual Memory I had. Since i posted my inital message, I  updated my Virtual memory setting for the system to allocate the virtual memory size. Windows XP now has allocated 3070 MB virtual memory for the 3GB Ram I have installed.

If you have 3GB of RAM, you don't really need a page file as large as 3GB.

Thanks for the pointer to the MS KB article that helped explain what is happening in my system.
