Windows XP Media & Kodaks EasyShare Software Problems

I have a Dimension 8400 which was bought in February 2005; I am running Windows XP Media.  I recently got a Kodak EasyShare Z730 Camera for Christmas.  I loaded the EasyShare software and even updated the software online.  After loading this software it caused my DVD-ROM and my DVD-RW not to function.  They did not show up in my computer either.  In the device manager it did show there was a problem with the drivers.  I did a system restore to go back before I installed this software and my drives came back.  I have tried several times to load this software; even going to the web site and downloading the software there but still no luck.  Has anyone else had a problem with this software causing their drives not to work?  Is this a hopeless case; should I give up on this piece of software and find another one?  Any advice would be appreciated.

I couldn't even get the software to install on a Dimension E310. After several emails back and forth to Kodak, they finally informed me that they do not support their software on Win XP Media Edition and essentially washed their hands of the whole situation. Since the software isn't essential and there are alternatives, I washed my hands too.

On a related note, I've had problems with other software not running on Media Edition, specifically jv16PowerTools2005, although the older freeware version works fine. Also, Microsoft's Shared Computer Toolkit will not work(at least Microsoft is nice enough to make that very clear in the documentation).

Can someone explain this? I assumed Media Center was just WinXP Home with some add-on media enhancements, but is their some fundamental difference or is it the enhancements themselves causing conflicts?

Thanks

I have an XPS 600 with MCE 2005 and JV16 PowerTools 2005 works fine.  What problems are you having?

You don't even need the Kodak software. I just got a new dell xps400 with xp media center and did not have to install the software. My docking station even works without the kodak software.
