Windows XP on Vostro 1500 ?

I bought Vostro 1500 with Windows Vista Home but I have a licence for Windows XP Professional from Microsoft MSDN Academic Alliance programme so I want to install XP on my new laptop. Using nLite I prepared an XP installation CD with SP3 and ICH8 drivers integrated but I'm still afraid that something can go wrong. Can somebody give me some hints how to install XP safely on my machine - especially how not to broke Recovery (Vista) and MediaDirect partitions and also MediaDirect still working? Thanks

Does the XP setup disk recognise your hard drive if you boot from it?

Yes, I've integrated the Intel P965 drivers (R154200) with the XP disc. I've added also other driver packages from Dell website: R173730, R171789, R161378, R155105, R154493, R153997, R151517, R147115, R141246 and R174291. After XP installation I have all devices detected. I didn't suppose it could be so easy!

So now I can tell whole recipe how to install XP on Vostro 1500 to have MediaDirect and everything working:

1. prepare XP installation CD using nLite (www.nliteos.com) - add all drivers listed by me (especially R154200 as a text mode driver) and Service Pack 3!!!

2. burn the CD, try to boot and check if Windows installation recognises discs (don't press F6 or something!)

3. if yes - go ahead, if no - go back to first step :)

4. backup your data!

5. insert MediaDirect CD to your drive and boot from it, prepare your hard disc to installing Windows (choose number of partitions and size of them), just follow the on-screen instructions

6. restart and insert your XP installation CD (nLite), boot from it - Windows installer should recognise 3 or 4 partitions - first with no letter and also C:, D: and MediaDirect (last partition)

7. install XP on the C: drive!!!!

8. that's all - after 30-40 minutes you will have XP installed on your Vostro - have fun!

This solution works for both Windows XP Professional and Home.
