Windows XP Paint Program
Ok, I'm not sure how to describe this, but here goes. In my paint program I was taking and pasting a lot of screen shots. Now when I go to paint there seems to be one stuck there and I can't get rid of it no matter what I do. The screen comes up and there's only a small space that it lets me use in the right hand corner, but the rest of the screen is inactive. When I click on the small area to cut it or get rid of it it doesn't work. Can I delete the paint program somehow and reinstall it. My Dell shipped w/ the MS works suite, but no boot disc for Windows XP. I cant use restore points because I have changed so much and have installed new software. Please help! BTW there is no picture in this space just a blank area w/ the ability to resize it at the corners or in middle of each line like a picture box.

You asked, "Can I delete the paint program somehow and reinstall it."
Yes, but you need an XP reinstallation CD to do so. Contact Dell at one of the links in this post and request an XP reinstallation CD.

Have you tried checking the attributes of the "area"? Image > Attributes
Or pasting your screen captures directly anyway?
Not sure if reinstalling it will help but it's worth a try. If you do need a setup CD, you can order one (provided still in warranty):

Free alternative: Paint.NET - it's what Paint could become if the Redmond folks were to redevelop it.

Click on Add/Remove Windows Components button on Add/Remove Programs
Paint is located in Accessories and Utilities > Accessories
Be sure to have your Windows setup CD ready when you reinstall

Windows will do it for you. Go to Start|Control Panel|Add or Remove Programs|Add/Remove Windows Components|Accessories and Utilities|Accessories. Uncheck Paint and restart the computer. After it finishes booting up go back to Accessories and check Paint again. When you OK out you will be prompted to insert your XP disk and Paint will be installed.
