Wow, your gonna be in the most secure place....no internet. I have only a few recommendations; before leaving make sure all drivers are up to date (ex: video card, network adapter, etc), perform a windows update (new releases are coming out next tuesday) for Windows and Office, last but not least prepare yourself for some form of backup.

I'm not sure if you have a cd or dvd burner but either way make sure you bring some blanks to perform regular backups. Driving 200 miles to pick up one item could be a pain.

Anyone have any other suggestions?

Thank you for your response.
All drivers and hardware are up-to-date (new).

Cannot do a windows update. You remember. the laptop is not hooked up to the internet.  I don't know of a CD that exists since the SP2 CD that would take care of all the updates that might be important for hardware, for instance. Is there such a thing?

I will be taking my external drive with backups, and for future backups, and I also have a CD burner. Must get blank CDs though. Didn't have that on my list.

I will wait to see if someone else has an idea or two. Thanks, much.

PS: I just got a note that my post has been changed because invalid HTML was found in the message body.  Don't know how that could happen.  I wrote the note in Notepad.

I get that error once in a while, probably a bug.

Their's a list available on the Microsoft site of all the updates released for XP since SP2.
In the drop down menu select XP Pro and then SP2, then click on the "Go" button.
The list is quite long, around 85 items. Thankfully its classified from most recent to the earliest.

In the drop down list you can also see all available updates for office. Such as Service Packs and bug/security fixes. I'm not sure if they've been applied to that machine yet.

Sort through the lists and download the installation packages for the ones you want. Then burn them to a CD or USB key. Afterwards you can apply them to the computer with no internet connection.
