WIndows XP product code

I had to purchase a new hard drive for my dell. I have the cd for Xp but I do not have the product code. How can retrieve/find the product code?  Can it be found on the old hard drive? Help.

The product code should be taped on the side of your tower. At least, it is on my 8400. I can't remember if it was on my previous 8200. That may not be true on all models or something Dell continued to do.

Run Belarc advisor and it will give you the product key.

Belarq just gives you the generic factory install key unless you purchased a retail version of XP and installed it yourself. The package the XP cd came in will have it.

texas tornado,

As beneteau indicated the Product ID is on a sticker on the side of the computer (for desktops) or the bottom of the computer (for laptops). You should not be prompted to enter the Product ID if you are reinstalling Windows from a Dell OEM XP CD.

No, the free version of Belarc will give you the Product Key for that machine.
