Windows XP Repair - Multiple OS?

I'm still trying to recover from Win XP Home crash. With Win-XP Home Reinstall CD inserted and  IDE CD-ROM at top of boot list, I can't get to repair screen (second "r") in the Repair/Reinstall process. Instead get options to ENTER (continue Win XP Setup) or press C or D to create or delete partitions. If ENTER I get "You chose to install Windows XP on a partition that contains another operating system....CAUTION: Installing multiple operating systems is not recommended....".  What is meaning of this? Can I continue at this point and simply reinstall over existing OS or will this cause more problems?
