windows xp upgrade to windows 7 and graphics question.
hi, i have this dell inspiron 530 windows xp
it is at least more than 5 years old. (
here are it's stats:
CPU: Intel core2 duo CPU e4500 @2.20GHz
RAM: 2.19GHz,3.24GB of RAM
it has Microsoft 4.0 .net framework.
i HAVE gotten the windows 7 upgrade adviser, and it says this computer should be able to run either windows 7 32bit or 64 bit.
what i want to know is: which would be the better option, 32 bit or 64bit? (i took a look at dirextx (9) and it says, on the display tab that this display is in 32bit, but i have no idea if the whole computer is a 32bit-based or a 64bit-based computer.
also, it has a poor GPU. its a: Intel GMA 3100. and i would like to know maybe where it is(physical), and if it is possible to get a newer card or if it is soldered to the motherboard. or i would love to have it updated.
i would really want to get the computer graphics upgraded.
please tell me which 'kind' of windows 7 would be the better option. i was leaning towards the 64bit side myself...
thanks!, inverno4661

Hi inverno4661,
Yes, the Inspiron 530 is compatible with windows 7 operating system, as the system qualifies for the basic hard ware requirements for windows 7 operating system, but the support.dell.com web site is not updated with the compatible drivers as Inspiron 530 was only tested on windows XP, vista operating systems.
After the operating system is installed drivers for a particular hardware please try installing the drivers for windows vista in compatibility mode or you need to install the driver from the hardware manufacturer’s website.
I suggest you to install windows 7 64-bit operating system for higher and better performance of the computer.
Inspiron 530 system is offered with various graphics solutions. System supports all the following Video Cards.
You can install any one of the above video cards.
Please reply for any help.

64 bit in general is better. Although to be honest there won't be that much of a difference as 4 GB of RAM is maximum in this model. If you have less than 4 GB of RAM e.g. 2 GB and do not plan to upgrade to 4 GB of RAM then the 32 bit version would be better.
See Windows Reinstallation Guide/A Clean install of Windows 7:

This will give you detailed instructions in Windows 7 installation for optimal results.
