laurahk8,

You will have to reinstall windows. There are some software programs out on the web that may be helpful in trying to recover your password. One is called Disk Commander.

laurahk8,

Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.

Dell Factory Image Restore

The Dell™ Factory Image Restore tool replaces PC Restore.access it from the boot menu rather than by using the shortcut.

Once on the selection screen choose the option that reads "Repair Your Computer" Follow the prompts to restore to factory condition. You will lose all data that you installed on the system by performing this function.

Unfortunately this solution will not work because it requires a password. I have lost the password.

The laptop is useless to me unless I have the password, and I don't have the password.

What can I do to legitimately reset the account on the computer itself?    Thank you for your assistance.

Thank you Jesse L!

I actually called customer support and they walked me through reinstalling windows using the disk I got with the computer order.  I could not have done it without someone on the line telling me exactly what to do so that worked for me.

After that could reinstall drivers and MS Office on my own and this time I am not going to lose my password.  Thanks!
