I just tried that, thanks for the help, but it didn't work. Any other suggestions?

Uninstall file-sharing programs. Then post problem in Virus forum.

If that answer is not applicable enter this command from command prompt:

ipconfig /flushdns

Also check your Device Manager for yellow marks

I don't know how the problem I have could be caused by a file sharing program; it didn't seem to coincide with my downloading any new programs. I have been trying to get rid of spyware lately. I've tried ipconfig/flushdns, I've tried registry cleaners, nothing seems to work.

If you want a quick fix this may do it. http://windowsxp.mvps.org/IEFIX.htm

Your underlying problem could be a file-sharing program that either comes loaded with bad stuff or downloads sw with bad stuff. To get rid of spyware/viruses get rid of the f-s sw and then run AdAware AND Spybot.

If you're using ad blocking or google tool bar get rid of them for now. Clear Temp files/cookies. Try a different home page, eg yahoo.com

btw, you did leave a space after the ipconfig part of the command; just checking
