WinDVD4 Windows Media Player conflict

Can't play DVD in WinDVD4, without first starting it in Media Player.  WinDVD is set as default player for DVD's, Media player is not.  Have reinstalled WinDVD4 to no avail.  Anyone know how to fix this?

Ok, so give me the sequence of events. You insert a DVD, and what happens? Nothing? Then if you manually start WinDVD, does the movie start?

I'm not sure if this is a WinDVD or disc recognition, or maybe autoplay issue.

I put the DVD in and get nothing.  If I manually open WinDVD and try to play it, basically nothing happens.  It won't play.  If I open Media Player and let the intro run till it stops, then open WinDVD it will play through WinDVD just fine.  Go figure.  Personally, I think it has to do with the registry entry for Media Player, but don't know enough to even find it - let alone fix it.  What do you think?
