Winlogon.exe- Entry Point Found error messages when starting Windows
Hello,
On my Dimension 4500s 1.6ghz celron/384 mb ram/XP Home I'm encountering the following error message in notification windows on a black background after the Windows XP launching splash screen goes away:
Winlogon.exe- Entry Point Not Found
The procedure entry point AssocIsDangerous could not be located in the dynamic link library SHLWAPI.dll.
Upon clicking OK, the only button available, I get the following message:
User Interface Failure
The Logon User Interface DLL msgina.dll failed to load.
Contact your system administrator to replace the DLL, or restore the original DLL.
And then, with the only option being "Restart" I do so only to encounter the same results.
Ctrl+alt+delete is not opening up the task manager.
I did submit a tech support e-mail directly to Dell, but the people on these boards are usually smarter our friendly non-english speaking customer service staff.
Thanks,
Ryan

Not clear whether you can do this, or whether you are booted out before you can do anything, but try click start, run, type sfc /scannow [note space between c and /], click OK. This will check system files and replace any that are missing or corrupted. It may ask for your XP CD if you don't have the I386 folder on your PC (where it would look first and where the dll file is).

Yeah I did, but I forget what it was!
I think I wound up running the XP repair reinstall... but I'm not sure whether that was it or not....
