Wireless Router & Vista

Hi, I'm trying to use a wireless router, Linksys-G to use it on my Dimension E521 with MS Vista and it shows the Router is connected to the Internet, but I cannot access it on the Vista. Does this mean that the Vista is incompatible with the router?

We are using a WRT54GS, and all is working well.
Does your wireless connection show up in networks?

I talked to a Dell tech this morning and I think I've got the problem taken care of.
Much thanks

Maybe you could post your solution? It might help others with the same problem.

My workplace just replaced open wireless with a 64-bit WEP encrypted system. I have an E1505 with Vista Home Premium and a Dell wireless card. Entering the security phrase was a cinch. However, there does not seem to be a way to change the encryption level to 64-bit so that I can connect. Any hints?

Do you know what model Dell wireless card you have?

I don't have that info readily available. The laptop was purchased within the past month. So it must be a fairly new Dell wireless card.

Device Manager will give you all of the information regarding your wireless card (as well as all other hardware in your computer).

You refer to your "workplace". Can you not get any help from your IT department? As well, if (as you say) the wireless network is using WEP to secure the network, it has been obsolete for several years now and the network is NOT very secure. WPA or WPA2 is now the standard.

Appreciate the response. I agree that the corporate IT rep should be able to handle this. That is precisely why I am seeking a solution here because he could not even set up my Inspiron E1705 using the Intel PROSet wireless card. It took me just a minute after I obtained the "secret" code.
