i have a similar problem with wmp 10 when viewing some videos.. i believe it is a terrible bug in wmp 10.. if you are using wmp 10, to work around the problem, something that you can try is, in wmp 10, go to "tools"/options/performance, then, on the performance tab, click "advanced", then uncheck "use overlay"..

i noticed that this problem does not exist in wmp 9, but then i saw that "use overlay" simply does not function at all in wmp 9..

for me, the problem comes up when i try using the video controls while viewing some videos; the picture messes up.. if i then click "reset", the picture clears up, but the controls are returned to the default settings.. if i touch the video controls, the picture messes up again.. the problem does not appear if i uncheck "use overlay" (but i get a better picture when "use overlay" is enabled)

one example of a video that i have a problem with is "the beastie boys" "gratitude" in wmp/"guide"/music/more music/beastie boys/gratitude.. the video works ok unless i touch the video controls..

This is a bug with ATI 4.10 Cat and ATI 4.11 Cat drivers that affects Windows Streaming VIdeo - not WMP as such. If you're running the 4.10 Cat driver, the only work-around is to set the WMP acceleration to off (far left on adjustment bar). If you're using the 4.11 Cat driver, go into Display Properties/Settings/Advanced/Options and uncheck WMP acceleration

Thanks for all the help people.

I solved the problem, what I did was, I installed DIVX, and then updated media player, so I'm now using version 10, instead of 9 which was already installed on my computer when I recieved it. So, now this is solved.

Unfortunately, I now have another problem... :smileysurprised:

About 2 days after getting the comp, I got a blue screen of death, saying that there had been a serious error, and I needed to restart my computer, it said that if this problem persists I need to check any new software is installed properly. Now, about 5 minutes ago, I got this screen again. I have no idea what its all about...

Hi...

I think this is the log...

-------------------------------

The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck.  The bugcheck was: 0x100000d1 (0x00000000, 0x00000002, 0x00000000, 0xe2790702). A dump was saved in: C:\WINDOWS\Minidump\Mini112704-01.dmp.

-------------------------------

It's done this twice now since I've had it

rocky, i have had the same blue screen on my dell.. some others also have had them.. i cannot find a record of the error on my computer now, so i cannot investigate it..

if you have a record of the error, post the information here, like where it says error 0x000001d, or whatever it is.. there might be a record of the error in "administrative tools"/event viewer, system(?)

btw, is it normal to have a load of errors in the administrative tools system thing? ...Cos there are about 40 errors, all involving my cdrom, saying it has a bad block.

Whatever that means.
