WXP SP1 Install - Help Please!
I just found this user group, I'm in a serious panic. I'm trying to install service pack 1 on a computer running WXP home. The download seemed to go quickly with no problems, but for the last 4 hours I have been looking at
a screen that says:
Service Pack 1 Set-up Wizard
Finishing Installation
Running processes after install
As far as I can tell, absolultely nothing is happening. I don't have an active "cancel" or "stop" button. Task Manager shows the wizard is "running" but CPU usage is showing about 2-4%, with an occasional blip to 8-10%. I don't know what to do next. How long should I give this update to install? How do I get out of this without creating a disaster? All suggestions are sincerely appreciated. Thank you!

SP1 should take less than five minutes to install. When it began its installation it created a restore point. You should be able to turn the computer off (by holding the power button in for several seconds) then restart it. With luck, the installation will not resume and you will be able to restore the system to its state before SP1 began the installation process and start again.

Hi
It took me a total of 9 hours on regular dial up to download the Windows Xp Service Pack 1A. I stuck it out and it finally installed and works great.

Windows XP did not include Microsoft Virtual Machine. SP1 did. SP1a did not, so if you have SP1 you do not have VM. Java services can be provided by Sun's Java Runtime Environment (which can be downloaded from here. Microsoft's Virtual Machine is no longer available from Microsoft but can be downloaded from the links here. (Note that you must download version 3805 first, then update it with version 3810.)

One more question, what do you have your cookies set at. I usually keep mine on medim and I have to set it to low to use the Dell forum.
