XP backup tool error message.

When trying to run backup using the widnows xp backup wizzard, after selecting the files I want to back up and I get to the window labelled "Backup Type, Destination and Name, I select my D: drive, and in the field "Type a name for this backup" I type: std backup 10-24-06, then when I click on "next", I get the following error message:The backup file name could not be used. "D:\std backup 10-24-06.bkf.
Please ensure itis a valid path, and that you have sufficient access.
I have been using the backup utility for a while, and initially it worked, but I have been unable to back up my files in the past 6 months, and I am getting really worried about losing files.
Hope somebody can help me.

guenterkarl, This may be a silly question but did you first make a folder named std backup10-24-06.bkf. on D to send your backup to?

Thanks fudgieguys for the website, it clearly explains the XP backup utility, but one wonders why Microsoft did not provide the tool with the capability to write to a CD, since that would be the obvious choice for most people to back up to. As a workaround I will write the backup file to the desktop, and copy it form there to the CD, that seems to work.
And also thanks to HiGhLaNdEr48 for your input, I will try to create the folder on the CD. If this works, it would be even easier to back up my files.

Thanks again,guenterkarl

guenterkarl, When I said to make the folder on d I thought you had a partion d.Now I see that your D drive is your cd burner. You cannot back up directly to a cd.I was suggesting that you make a new folder in say your docs and send backup to it then burn folder to cd but the desktop folder is fine also.
