XP Drivers for Inspiron 560

Hi,

Is it possible to get XP Drivers for the Inspiron 560? They aren't in the Drivers and Downloads section

matt23,

Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.

You would have to search the web sites for the specific drivers for the hardware installed inside your computer.

Thanks Jesse.

Will XP drivers for all the components be available?

Why don't Dell supply XP drivers for this system?

matt23,

If Dell did not ship XP on the system they will not make drivers.

Hey, I'm the first one to agree that Win7 is wonderful - I'm not knocking it at all.  But...my company is using software from Lectra to control cutting machines and handle pattern design.  The software they use is NOT certified with Win7 yet (nor Vista) - and the hardware requirements on the PC are fairly intensive. The Inspiron 560 fits the hardware side nicely - but I have to manually downgrade to XP to work with this software.

And, yes, I know - these guys should be providing Win7-tested code now, but they have this great habit of lagging behind the curve by years.  We have way too much time and money invested to switch to another cutting machine and software bundle, so I have no choice but to keep XP alive and kicking.

I've manually downgraded other machines from other vendors, and it's always been an interesting hunt when trying to find the drivers for the bios, chipset, audio, video, lan, SATA, etc. I am still waiting on delivery for my machine from Dell, but I figured I'd get a jump start on the drivers now...

Since we'll have to do all of this ourselves, I will be willing to share any of the drivers I find with this forum - and in return, if you find any, please do the same. I will continue my own research, and check in every few days to see what's going on.  Hopefully, we'll get all of this figured out soon.

Thanks in advance for any help!

if you have the list of specific hardware that came with the system, simply going to the product website of each device will be an easy way to find the drivers, or a simple google search.  here is the win xp driver for the chipset and video from the intel website http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=18810&lang=eng

Anybody can answer it? The information is nice, but it has nothing to do with my issue.

I'm reviving an old thread, because I'm' in the same situation as the OP.

The link above directs to drivers for Vostro 220. Does Inspiron 560 share the same chipset as Vostro 220? If so, this could be a solution.

Windows XP is reaching its end of life in less than a year. It is recommended to avoid use of this OS and instead upgrade to Windows 7. See Windows XP SP3 and Office 2003 Support Ends April 8, 2014.

However if for some reason you must install a legacy version of Windows such as Windows XP, from the above:

  • Inspiron 560 = Vostro 220

So likely:

  • Inspiron 560s = Vostro 220s

Therefore take the drivers for the Vostro 220s from the Dell ftp website: http://ftp.dell.com/Pages/Drivers/vostro-220s.html

Install Dell System Software, Chipset, SATA, Video, Modem, Audio and then Network. Download all the drivers to a USB stick and install in the correct order. See Windows Reinstallation Guide/A Clean Install of Windows XP for more details: http://philipyip.wordpress.com/dell-community-forums/

Do not install the BIOS from the Vostro 220s, if you want to update the BIOS get it from the Inspiron 660s Dell ftp website: http://ftp.dell.com/Pages/Drivers/inspiron-560s.html
