XP Internet Explorer page text overly large

I have run into a problem view certain pages when in Windows Internet Explorer. I discovered it when trying to log into a secure website and when I access it the window text goes super large and virtually becomes unusable. I was told it was an Active X needed to be installed, which I did. It didn't work.  In checking for any windows updates I found a simlar problem in the Microsoft update pages.  For a "windows update" it is ok, when I go to the "office update" the page text goes supper large and becomes unusable.  I'm aware of being able to change text size from the menu bar, but it's beyond that.  So I'm not sure where to look for the solution?
Any suggestions?

That's quite the dozey. I would recommend that you try a utility for rebuilding IE. Try IEfix at http://tinyurl.com/5tfae, that is a direct download for the file. You simply open it and click apply. It may ask for the Windows disk if it finds files that need to be repaired/replaced.
