I would guess that you are expecting it to print.  What the button actually does is copies the screen image to the clipboard.  You will need to use a graphic program, Word or other software program that you can Paste the image into.

By hitting the button by itself will give you an image of your entire desktop.

The + combination will give you an image of the active window.

Press 'Print Screen' Key (nothing will appear).

Go to Start>All Programs>Accessories>Paint>Edit>Paste.

Using the PrintScreen button or Alt./PrintScreen will only "cut" the window.  Your must then open Word or Powerpoint and paste your selection.  PrintScreen copies the entire screen and Alt/Printscreen copies the active window.

For a better way to copy and print your screen try "PrintNow" a free utility.  You can set in your quick launch ready to use   Check my link.

If your "Print Screen" is labeled in blue & your Function key is also blue then you have to hold Fn key while using "Print Scrn" , ie:  "Fn"+"Print Scrn" or  "Fn"+"Alt+Print Scrn" (ie: with DELL Laptops)

I have also found FREE Program PrintKey 2000 to be useful it auto open a small window showing image created by "Print Scrn" keys  & can be saved directly anywhere.
You can download FREE version of PRINTKEY 2000 Version 5.10 from
